Jeon Yeo-been, Nana believe in the supernatural in Netflix Korea original 'Glitch'
Aliens and UFOs exist.
Or at least, actors Jeon Yeo-been and Nana believe they do, in the upcoming Netflix Korea original series “Glitch,” directed by Roh Deok. The series is written by writer Jin Han-sae, well-known for Netflix Korea’s previous series “Extracurricular” (2020).
The series revolves around Ji-hyo, portrayed by Jeon, who becomes utterly convinced that aliens took her boyfriend Si-guk away when he goes missing for 10 days. Ji-hyo and her childhood friend and UFO enthusiast Bo-ra, portrayed by Nana, decide to take on their own investigation into Si-guk’s sudden disappearance.
“I'm someone who wants to believe in the existence of god,” Jeon said of herself at the local press event for “Glitch” at the Yongsan I’Park Mall branch of CGV in central Seoul on Tuesday. “I wonder whether, in this vast space in the universe, humans are the only intelligent beings. I’m not the kind who limits my boundaries or thoughts, so I’m open to the idea of the existence of aliens.”
“I do believe in aliens, even before I starred in this series,” Nana said. “But I’ve grown more curious about them through this project.”
Although the series is categorized as sci-fi mystery, director Roh behind the series says that “Glitch” cannot quite be confined to that genre.
“Aliens, in this series, are not focused on actual entities coming down from a spaceship,” Roh said. “It’s more about beings which, from time to time, pop up in Ji-hyo’s life — and perhaps its definition expands to other characters who change, and their actions can have twofold meanings. ‘Glitch’ is a mixed genre, and it cannot be defined as just sci-fi.”
Roh said that the series could be called a buddy drama as it focuses on the relationship between the two friends.
“The keywords for this series is trust and beliefs,” Roh said. “The series asks the question to the audience, rather than compiling hard evidence or facts, what really constitutes or defines a person’s faith? I believe that, essentially, what shapes people’s beliefs is trust.”
“Glitch” hits Netflix worldwide on Oct. 7.
