It’s been seven years of hurt, but boy band Highlight has finally reclaimed the right to use its original name, Beast, under which it debuted in 2009.

An agreement was reached with the band’s previous agency, Cube Entertainment, for Highlight to use the trademark for Beast, the band’s agency Around Us Entertainment said in a press release on Tuesday.

The band will nevertheless continue to release music as Highlight, the agency said.

Highlight debuted as Beast under Cube Entertainment in 2009. Five members — Yoon Doojoon, Yang Yoseob, Lee Kikwang, Son Dongwoon and Yong Junhyung — left the agency in December 2016 and formed Highlight. Member Jang Hyunseung withdrew from the band in April earlier that year while Yong Junhyung left the band in 2019.

In a social media post from 2017, Yoon, the band’s leader, expressed the members’ desires and efforts to retain the name Beast, but stated that they could not keep it at the moment.

It was reported that the trademark of the band’s name was held by Cube Entertainment until 2026, with the agency retaining the right to extend its ownership past 2026.

Highlight’s recovery of its original name comes right on time with the band’s celebrations of 15 years since its debut.

The band will hold three concerts on May 10, 11 and 12 at the KSPO Dome in Songpa District, southern Seoul, as part of its anniversary celebrations.

Titled “Lights Go On, Again,” the concerts are the band’s first in two years.

“Together, we will sing for an eternity until the end,” Around Us Entertainment said in its description of the concert. “It is a time to ignite a new light.”

Prerelease tickets for “Lights Go On, Again” will open for the band’s fan club members at 8 p.m. on April 9, and regular tickets will open at 8 p.m. on April 12.
