Netflix announces May 15 premier date for 'The WONDERfools' starring Cha Eun-woo, Park Eun-bin
"The WONDERfools," Netflix's new comedy action series featuring actors Cha Eun-woo and Park Eun-bin, will premiere on May 15, the streaming giant said Friday.
Set in 1999, "The WONDERfools" revolves around a group of neighborhood misfits "who unexpectedly gain superpowers and must band together to take on villains threatening world peace."
Director Yoo In-sik of "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" (2022) takes the helm. Park takes the lead as the astonished Chae-ni, alongside Cha as laser-focused Un-jeong, taken-aback Gyeong-hun, played by Choi Dae-hoon and spooked Ro-bin, played Im Seong-jae.
"The WONDERfools" will be the first new content to feature Cha after he came under fire for allegedly dodging what was reported as the largest sum of taxes for a celebrity in Korea.
Since earlier this year, Cha has been facing tax evasion allegations after it was reported that he was subject to an investigation by the National Tax Service in the spring of last year. He was accused of evading taxes and was reportedly ordered to pay 20 billion won ($13.5 million) in unpaid taxes plus a penalty.
Last week, Cha issued an apology and said he had paid the full amount on his Instagram account, without specifying the amount that he paid. Local media reported that he actually paid 13 billion won, slightly more than half the initially ordered amount.
