'Broke Rookie Star' wins two awards at LAWebFest 2022
Web series “Broke Rookie Star” (2022) starring Rocky of boy band Astro won two awards at LAWebFest 2022, a film festival for web dramas, according to the event’s organization committee on Tuesday.
This year’s ceremony took place at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Saturday. “Broke Rookie Star” took home Best Actor and Best Web Series Of All Genres.
“This award is dedicated to the victims of the Itaewon tragedy,” said CEO Park Byung-geon of the show’s production company PH E&M.
LAWebFest 2022 started in 2009 and is the largest film festival in the world for web dramas.
“This is the first time for a Korean web series to win the grand prize since this festival launched in 2009,” said Kang Young-man, the executive chairman of the festival’s organization committee.
“Broke Rookie Star” started airing on the KBS World YouTube channel from April. It also won Best Actor as well as Best Web Series at the SeoulWebFest 2022 in August.
The series centers around an unpopular member within a popular K-pop boy band, and his struggles to survive in the entertainment scene.
Rocky debuted as a member of Astro in February 2016 with the EP “Spring Up." The boy band is known for songs“Crazy Sexy Cool” (2017), “Blue Flame” (2019), “Knock” (2020) and “One” (2021).
