Eight of 13 WJSN members renew their contracts with Starship Entertainment
Eight members of 13-member girl group WJSN renewed their contracts with Starship Entertainment, according to the agency on Friday.
“Recently, the agency renewed its contracts with Exy, Seola, Bona, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Dayoung and Yeonjung,” a statement from the agency said.
“Regrettably Luda and Dawon have decided to end their exclusive contracts [with the agency] after long discussions.”
“We respect the choices made by Luda and Dawon, and we support their future endeavors and their future paths,” said the agency after thanking the two members for their efforts and contributions.
“Xuanyi, Chengxiao and Meiqi, who were part of the group WJSN under Yuehua Entertainment, have also had their contracts terminated automatically upon contract expiration,” said the agency. Since 2018, the three Chinese members, Chengxiao, Meiqi and Xuanyi, focused on activities in Mainland China and halted their Korean promotions.
Starship Entertainment ended the statement with a promise to “make every effort to support the members to shine more in their future activities as WJSN.”
WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, debuted in 2016, jointly produced by the Korean agency Starship Entertainment and the Chinese agency Yuehua Entertainment. The group continued its activities as a ten-member group with Starship Entertainment managing the group after the Chinese members halted their Korean activities in 2018.
The group is best known for its hits “Happy” (2017), “As You Wish” (2019) and “Last Sequence” (2022).
