Korean indie group Boogie Saloon to release new gukak-pop single
Korean indie group Boogie Saloon will release its new gukak-pop single “Sea Shanty” on Monday, according to the label JMG.
The band is known for its unique music style, named “Joseon-pop” mixing gukak (Korean traditional music) with pop music. Joseon is Korea's ancient kingdom that existed from 1392 to 1910.
“Sea Shanty” is based on Korean traditional folk songs, arranged with Korean traditional pipe sounds with a mixture of electronic guitar riffs, drums and bass guitar sounds.
The band debuted in 2021 with the single “Liking it,” a rock song based on gukak. With the band’s distinct music styles, Boogie Saloon’s music featured in TV advertisements Gugak TV channels and music festivals.
