Blackpink's Jisoo, Park Jeong-min to star in Coupang Play zombie series
Blackpink’s Jisoo and actor Park Jeong-min will lead Coupang Play's 2025 original zombie series "Newtopia," the streaming platform said Thursday.
"Newtopia" will take place in a Seoul plagued by an unknown zombie virus. Park will play Jae-yoon, a character completing his mandatory military service, and Jisoo as Young-ju, Jae-yoon's girlfriend. The series follows the two youngsters trying to meet during the zombie outbreak.
The series will be directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, known for taking the helm of films “Bleak Night” (2011) and “Time to Hunt” (2020). The series will be Yoon’s first drama as well as his third collaboration with Park. Park previously appeared in both of Yoon’s films “Bleak Night” and “Time to Hunt.”
The series is co-written by Han Jin-won, who participated in writing the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” (2019), and Ji Ho-jin, known for writing Disney+’s series “A Shop for Killers.”
Jisoo, who first debuted as a member of Blackpink in 2016, has recently been active as an actor, taking the lead role for JTBC's drama "Snowdrop" (2021-22). "Newtopia" will be Jisoo's second TV series appearance.
Park debuted in 2011 with Yoon's film "Bleak Night" and has been appearing in various drama and films. He is known for his roles in Netflix's series "Hellbound" (2021) and "The 8 Show" and films such as "Smugglers" (2023).
