Cast of play 'Freud’s Last Session' unveiled
Actors Shin Gu, Nam Myoeng-ryeol, Lee Sang-yoon and musical actor Kai will star in the upcoming play “Freud’s Last Session,” producers of the play The Park Company announced on Thursday.
“Freud’s Last Session” is a fictional play based on the premise of Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud meeting up with British writer C.S. Lewis, author of “The Chronicles of Narnia,” to have a heated discussion about God, religion, the meaning of life and death. It is set during the early days of the Second World War, in 1939.
Veteran actors Shin and Nam will take the role of Freud, while Lee and Kai will play the young C.S. Lewis.
“I have the desire to leave behind my very favorite work before I die, and perhaps this performance fits that purpose,” said 86-year-old Shin.
The play, written by American playwright Mark St. Germain and first premiered in New York in 2009, marks its third season in Korea, having first premiered in 2020.
“I’m glad to be on a stage that provides an insight to the psychology of the human mind, reflecting on the phases of the times,” said Kai, who joins the play for the first time.
A movie adaptation of the play is also in production, featuring renowned Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins and English actor Matthew Goode.
"Freud's Last Session" will start its run on July 8 and go until Sept. 10, at the TOM theater located in Daehak-ro, Jongno District, central Seoul.
