TWS sells over 400,000 copies of debut EP 'Sparkling Blue'
Rookie boy band TWS has sold over 400,000 physical copies of its debut EP, “Sparkling Blue,” thanks to the growing popularity of its lead track, "plot twist," on online short video platforms.
“Sparkling Blue” sold 406,262 copies as of Thursday, according to record tracker Hanteo Chart on Monday. The EP sold 26,881 copies in its first week after it dropped on Jan. 24.
The EP’s lead track, “plot twist.” has been on a winning streak on online platforms with its catchy melody and lyrics, making the song a popular choice for video background music. The band reached first place with the song on SBS’s live music show “Inkigayo” (1991-) on Sunday. With the win, the band took first place on five domestic music shows, including MBC M’s “Show Champion” (2012-) and KBS’s “Music Bank” (1998-).
On the music charts, "plot twist" was sitting at No. 3 on Melon and No. 2 on Bugs and genie as of Monday.
TWS first released “Oh Mymy: 7s,” a prerelease single from “Sparkling Blue,” on Jan. 2 ahead of the EP’s release. The band is the first boy band to be launched under Pledis Entertainment since Seventeen debuted in 2015.
The band's name, TWS, stands for "Twenty-four seven with us." It has six members: Youngjae, Jihoon, Dohoon, Kyungmin, Shinyu and Hanjin.
