Celebrities make charitable donations to mark Children's Day
Celebrities are commemorating Children's Day, which marks its 100th anniversary this year, by making donations to charity.
According to EDAM Entertainment Thursday, singer and actor IU donated 100 million won ($79,600) to ChildFund Korea, which will be used to support the education of children from single parent households and those who are being raised by their grandparents.
“I wanted to support children who should be beloved by all of us,” IU said through her agency. “I hope Children’s Day can be a day when all children can laugh and happily dream of their future.”
Actor Kim Go-eun donated 50 million won to Seoul National University Children’s Hospital, according to her agency BH Entertainment. The donation will be used to support the treatment of patients with financial difficulties.
“I was so touched to have heard that [the donation] will help out young patients,” Kim said. “I will continue to try to reach out to those around me and find ways to respond to all the love I receive from the public.”
Actors Park Bo-young and Sung Yu-ri and singers Solbi and Lee Chan-won are reported to have also donated to children’s hospitals or non-profit organizations that help underprivileged children.
